Growing up I couldn’t wait to be a mom. I wanted three kids just like my parents had. It seemed like the perfect number. I had it all planned out. I was going to get a degree in Education and get a job as a teacher. I would marry the love of my life and have my three kids about two years apart (just like my parents). It was going to be perfect!
Now the reality is completely different. I met my husband my freshman year of college. We married very young, I was 21. We waited five years before having our first baby. Four years later we had our second. A year and a half after that we had our third baby. By this time I had only graduated from Community college with an associates in accounting and I was a stay-at-home mom. I thought at this point in my life and plan, I had my three kids, I was done. But, God had other plans and two years later I had my fourth baby. Life was almost perfect.
I do love being a mom. My kids are my world, my everything but I have realized that I have allowed myself to get lost. I was not taking care of myself the way I should be. To help myself as a wife/mom/woman there are four things I try to do for me. To be me, to re-find myself.
- Brush my teeth I brush my teeth every night. I include flossing and mouth wash. I had a bad habit of feeling too tired to do this at night. After taking care of four kids, a husband and all our animals, I didn’t feel I had the energy to do this. But even when I feel too exhausted I force myself to the bathroom to brush my teeth.
- Clean Face/Facial/Mask In addition to brushing my teeth, I also wash my face while I am there. I use a cleanser and a moisturizer. A few days a week I try to include a mask or facial of some kind. I own quite a few. This gives something for me.
- Manicure This is something new I have started doing once or twice a week. I schedule in time to paint my nails. Most of the I do this just me, giving time to myself. Other times I include my girls, we have a “girls night”.
- Writing I have always enjoyed writing. It has been a way to express myself and a creative outlet. I usually keep a journal for emotional times. I blog, and recently I have been working on a project for my kids. I have been writing them a children’s book series. (I’m thinking of sharing with you). I love writing! What are a few things you do for you?
